Tammy Gray

Tammy Gray, 53, passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2023 at the home of a friend in Onset, MA. She had been receiving treatment for ovarian cancer since 2016 and recently entered into hospice services.

Tammy grew up in Brockton and graduated from the local public high school. In her teens, Tammy began working at a local Friendly’s restaurant, eventually advancing to management throughout her 17 year career with her company. Tammy continued to live in Brockton during her adult years spending time in the community with friends and family as often as she could.

In 2016 she went to the hospital, something she had avoided for a long time, and was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Though Tammy was anxious and uncertain, she worked with her oncology team, and with support from community providers, was able to get through several surgeries and chemotherapy. Her cancer remained in remission until 2019. Though she was again faced with chemotherapy, Tammy perceived this recurrence as a mere set-back in her ongoing recovery. Due to the complexity of her recurrence, Tammy began working with oncology out of Beth Israel at this time. She began working with a primary team of providers she trusted. They were focused on her quality of life through cancer treatment and pain management, remaining with her through her hospice care.

In her final month, Tammy was able to stay with friends who provided round the clock care with the help of hospice. She was grateful for the sense of love and belonging this offered her in her final days, especially the attention she received from the family’s ever vigilant and protective German Sheppard dogs. Tammy will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
