Norman Franklin Rowland, 89, died November 1, 2021 in Boston, MA, where he had lived for the past five years. Born October 10, 1932 in Muskogee, OK, Norm Rowland was the youngest child of Augustus and Ruth Rowland. He was a member of the Tulsa Central High School class of 1950 and graduated from the University of Tulsa following Navy service during the Korean Conflict. A journalist, Rowland reported for both the AP and UPI, edited several magazines including Kansas City Magazine and Touring Times, and wrote a column, Musings, published most recently in Houston Sun Newspapers.
Norman Rowland was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Robert, and his beloved granddaughter Katrina Englar. Survivors include a sister, Eloise Kirk, Neosho, MO; three children, Susan Englar, Boston, MA, Jennifer Kroeker, Wichita, KS, and David Rowland, Boston, MA; and four grandchildren, Rich Englar, Tallahassee, FL, Amelia Kroeker, Wichita, KS, Aaron Kroeker, Wichita, KS, and Claire Kroeker, Wichita, KS.
No services are planned, but the family will gather to celebrate his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
