Janet Reed Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Janet Elaine Reed (Haskell), age 71, of Bridgewater, MA. She left this world on March 7, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She passed in peace at home as she wished surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Brockton on April 7, 1952, Janet was the fifth child (of twelve) of the late Charles and Hazel Haskell.

In her early years, Janet was a pre-school teacher, which she enjoyed immensely. After that, she spent many years caring for others as a nurse’s aide. Janet was a dedicated wife, mom, and Nana who spent her life giving to others, not only to her children and grandchildren, but to extended family and friends. Janet was the true definition of selfless as she was always more concerned with the wishes and needs of others before her own. We admire her for this enormous generosity that she shared with so many throughout her life. Janet was most proud of all that her children accomplished, especially since she worked hard as a mom to give them all the best opportunities in life. She was also blessed to be Nana to seven grandsons who brought her the most joy in her later years. Janet enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, card games with her grandsons, and especially a good win at the casino or on a scratch ticket! A sports enthusiast, she enjoyed the Red Sox and the Patriots, as well as watching and cheering on her grandsons from the sidelines.

Janet is survived by her husband, John, and her cherished children: John Reed of Webster, Robin Reed of East Taunton, and Billy Reed and his wife Melissa of Abington. Her grandsons Matthew and Jacob Reed and their mother Stephanie McGuire of Charlton; Mason French and Douglas Voisine, Jr. of East Taunton; and Liam, Gavin, and Finn Reed of Abington – all who meant the world to her. In turn, she meant the world to them and will be greatly missed. Janet was the sister of Charles “Butch” Haskell and his wife Lorraine of Kingston, Irene Figueiredo and her husband John of Raynham, David Haskell and his partner Gerry of Abington, John Haskell and his partner Jayne of Plymouth, Ruth Betts and her husband Keith of Brockton, and Barbara Haskell of Brockton. Lifelong and dearest friend of Joanne Weir Horsman of Brockton. Janet was the sister of the late George Haskell, James Haskell, Norma Haskell, Vivian Johnson, and Linda Cruz. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. While this loss is profound, we are grateful for all she has given us as a wife, mom, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. She leaves a hole in our hearts, but we will continue to live on as she wished holding our memories close.

We would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Old Colony Hospice for providing the greatest and most supportive care and to all who have been supporting us through these most difficult months.
