Grover Leo Fitzgerald, “Fitzy” age 93 was born on october 7th 1928 in South Boston, MA. He died of natural causes on August 6th 2022 at the VA Hospital in Brockton, MA. Grover lived in various places along the south shore including Quincy, Hull and Brockton and resided in Quincy, MA in his later years.
Born to Grover and Ann Meredith Fitzgerald, he was the youngest of three children after his older sisters Rosemary and Ruth. In his younger years, he was a member of the armed forces and served in the Coast Guard at the rating of an ordinary seaman, the United States Army as a PFC, and finally the Merchant Marines. He worked at the Quincy Shipyard as a welder on the USS Long Beach and other naval vessels. He also worked as a diesel mechanic at White Fuel in South Boston and as a bus driver in Brockton, MA.
He spent many leisure hours Country Line Dancing at Diamond Jack’s in Raynham, MA, an avid New England Patriots fan, and he enjoyed staying at Fourth Cliff Recreation Area with friends. He took up parachuting for a time and was a member of POPS (Parachutists Over Phorty Society)
Grover was married to Dorothy E. White Fitzgerald and is survived by his sons Steven, Jeffrey, Brian and his wife Alyssa, granddaughters Rachel Fitzgerald and Sara Fitzgerald, nephews Michael Slyman and his wife Susan, James Slyman (predeceased), Donald Robinson and niece Rhonda Robinson and her husband Tom.
Visiting hours for family will be held on Monday, August 15th at the Southeast Funeral Home, 93 Center Street., Easton, MA from 10:30AM to 12:00PM. Burial and graveside service will follow at the Massachusetts National Ceremony, Connery Ave., Bourne, MA at 1:30PM.
