Ellen D. (Leddy) Auclair

Mrs. Ellen Deirdre Auclair (née Leddy), of Attleboro, MA, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the age of 67 after a courageous nineteen month battle against cancer.

Ellen was born to John and Carolyn Leddy (Gillon) on October 10, 1951 in Taunton, MA. Carolyn died in 1955 and John remarried to Catherine Powers, who raised Ellen and her four brothers. She grew up as the eldest of five and attended Cassidy High School and briefly attended Mount Ida College for a degree in Art. Ellen previously worked at Mini-Systems Inc, Ro-Jacks as a deli clerk and Readmore Bookstore in Taunton. Ellen eagerly served the city of Attleboro, protecting its children as a crossing guard for twenty-nine years and served lunch at Wamsutta Middle School for nineteen years. Her love for the citizens of Attleboro was evident in her cheerful morning waves to everyone who passed her. Ellen was an avid crafter of knitted and crocheted gifts for friends and family, and was well known for matching her outfits to her hand-knitted socks on a daily basis. She also enjoyed mystery novels, often reading a book each day. After her diagnosis, visitors would always find her watching the Hallmark Channel and Briana estimates that Ellen saw every movie ever aired on that channel no less than three times. She also enjoyed watching do-it-yourself shows and dabbled in home repairs and improvements, which she insisted kept her mind and body young. Ellen will be remembered by all that knew her for her positive outlook of life, her joyous laughter, and wonderful sense of humor.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Briana D. Auclair of Attleboro; her second mother Catherine Leddy of North Falmouth, and her brothers families: Philip Leddy and Cindy Letourneau of Plymouth, nephews Christopher and Andrew Leddy, Jack and his wife Maura Leddy and their children Tierney and Patrick Leddy of Raynham, Peter and Sheila Leddy and their children Owen, Caelan and Anna Leddy of Milton and Kevin Leddy of North Falmouth. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Carolyn and sister-in-law Susan Leddy.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will take place at Bliss Dairy Restaurant on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm in the function room. All members of the community are welcome. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Women & Infants Oncology Center or the Philip Hulitar Hope Health Hospice Center, whom both helped her and her family in their time of need.
