Doreen M. (Chisholm) Finlayson

Doreen M. Finlayson, 82, of Mansfield MA, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.  Doreen was born to the late Alphonsus and Florence Chisholm in Inverness, Nova Scotia.  She was the loving wife of the late Harvey W. Finlayson, they were married in Jamaica Plain at Our Lady of Lourds Parish on June 10, 1961.

Doreen is survived by daughter Donna Shepherd and her husband Todd of Westford, MA; 3 granddaughters, Rebecca, Alexa and Elizabeth all of Westford MA and her son Dean of Worcester, MA; 2 grandsons, Corey Finlayson of Quechee VT and Justin Finlayson of Whitinsville, MA. She has 2 great-grandsons, Riley and Maxxim.

Doreen is also survived by her siblings Florence Thomson of Toronto, Canada, Jean MacDougall of Roslindale, MA, Mary MacDougall of Middleboro, MA, Al Chisholm of London, Ontario, and Lorraine Massey of Pawtucket, RI.  She is survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. 

Doreen found joy and comfort in a relationship with Donald Smith of North Easton, MA over the past several years.

In addition to Doreen’s parents and husband Harvey, she was predeceased by her son, Daniel F. Finlayson and her sister, Loretta Chisholm.

Doreen loved to spend time with family, friends and neighbors. She was an amazing self-taught cook, with a fondness for baking and cleaning. She enjoyed reading, sunbathing, playing cards games and was an avid cribbage player. She was a lifelong Elvis fan. Many trips to Canada, Aruba, Cape Cod, cruises and family cookouts kept Doreen surrounded by the people she loved.

In accordance with Doreen’s wishes, no services will be held. Her final resting place will be with her husband at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.  Friends and family may offer their condolences on the website of Southeast Funeral and Cremation in North Easton

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the Beacon Hospice Fall River branch for the wonderful hospice care Doreen received which allowed Doreen to stay at home with her family and friends per her wishes.  The formal tax-deductible donations in her honor can be made to the Amedisys Foundation 3854 American Way Suite A, Baton Rouge LA 70816.
