Beatrice McIntire-Smith Obituary

Beatrice M. McIntire-Smith, born Beatrice Mary Reitsma age 90, passed away peacefully from natural causes in her home October 20, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Born May 31, 1931 to William P. Reitsma and Florence (Carr) Reitsma. Beatrice was raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston. She married Charles A. McIntire of Weymouth at the First Congregational Church in Hyde Park, May 7, 1955. The couple raised their four children at their home in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Beatrice is survived by her daughters Mashubi Rochell & her husband Doran Rochell, Lorna Yurkievich & her husband Ron Yurkievich, and sons Scott McIntire and Stephen McIntire & his wife Tara McIntire. Her sisters Toddy (Hazel) Guyot & her husband Bob Guyot; Jeanne Molinario & her husband Angelo Molinario; and Judy DiLorenzo & her husband Rocky DiLorenzo. Also survived by her step-daughters Debra Snow & her husband Edward Snow; Diane Noke & her husband Robert Noke; and Cynthia Barrus & her late husband William Barrus; and her unofficial “honorary adopted daughter” Karen Clay. Beatrice was the proud grandmother to Ron Yurkeivich Jr., Liam McIntire, Isla-rose McIntire and great-grandmother to Jordan & Jasmine Yurkeivich.

Beatrice was passionate about her children, gardening, her cats, and working in her home. She loved watching football, basketball and tennis; going to line dances, yard sales and bargain hunting. She loved working with her husband Charles, improving their house on Grove Street by wallpapering, painting and putting down new rugs.

Beatrice worked as a lunch aide in the Brockton school system and later as a home aide for the elderly. She loved children, serving as a foster parent in her early married life and a cub scout den mother at the First Lutheran Church in Brockton. She loved her family and her children deeply, she always strove to be a source kindness and love to those who were in her life.

Beatrice was a life long member of the Christ Congregational Church in Brockton. She leaned on her faith in difficult times and drew comfort from reading her Bible before bed each night.

After the passing of her first husband Charles (1986), Beatrice married again to Fredrick Smith of Quincy on February 11, 1989 and moved to Easton, MA.

Beatrice enjoyed traveling with Fred, visiting yard sales, going to dances and building a new life together. She formed great friendships with her neighbors at her Easton home while working in her much beloved gardens. She would chat with her neighbors who she grew to love as part of her own family.

Beatrice never felt comfortable being the center of attention, but her kindness, open-hearted warmth drew people to her. She was a beacon of strength and love to her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by all who where blessed to have her in their life.
